McPhy Energy, a leading French pioneer in green hydrogen since 2008, develops advanced electrolyzers that convert water and renewable power into clean hydrogen.
For their expanding R&D team in Wildau near Berlin, we designed a scalable lab, makerspace, and office environment to support innovation in high-capacity Megawatt-electrolyzer testing and sustainable energy solutions.

Discover
In a beautiful former locomotive shed in Wildau, south of Berlin, and in close proximity to McPhy’s German Headquarter at the Campus of TU Wildau, we were looking into possible sites for placing the testing facility.
After a thorough investigation into the lab’s requirements, workflows, risk assessment and the dangerous goods being handled, we began developing a big vision of how this lab can incrementally be developed over time.

DESIGN
At the chosen location, we designed an office and makerspace that meets all of McPhy’s testing needs while ensuring a safe, engaging workspace. With no existing infrastructure, we planned and implemented flooring, ventilation, sanitation, gas supply, and safety systems, and collaborated with Waldner to equip the lab with fume hoods and a custom sink setup.

Build
We designed a flexible makerspace equipped with modular workbenches, machinery, and adaptable storage for rapid prototyping and production. The modular furniture doubles as room dividers, making the space efficient and reconfigurable.
Office & Lounge
The front area combines workstations with a small lounge, ideal for collaboration between McPhy’s scientists and visiting partners. Modular furniture integrates storage, display, and seating, ensuring a cohesive and versatile design within the compact space.
