Phlair

Direct Air Capture (DAC)

Phlair (formerly Carbon Atlantis) is on a mission to solve the climate crisis by capturing COdirectly from air.

We were excited to help their team reaching their ambitious goals and support the complex infrastructure needs of climate tech start-ups. From an empty, 3-story industrial space to a high-tech chemistry lab, makerspace, workshop, community space and office in 9 months from idea to operational.

Project highlights

SLA provides an end-to-end service for projects, starting with understanding the workflow of our clients to handing over an operational facility.

Discover

The LEN, a Light Industrial Development of the Binnberg Developers, was the ideal space to accommodate Phlairs research and product development facility.

Within a week, we assessed the location and Phlairs initial requirements for our further planning of the space.

DESIGN

We planned a detailed and ergonomic furniture and equipment layout for the labs and the makerspaces. The office and community area was also designed to fit the needs of the quickly growing team.

Additionally, we planned the building technical services, such as electric, sanitary, ventilation, light, air pressure and gas, and importantly, work safety, to be up to the standards of operating a chemical lab and industrial engineering workspace.

Build

We designed and built the lab adjacent to the makerspace and production area, maintaining an open visual flow between all spaces. Integrating a new ventilation system into the existing structure was a key challenge, but the building’s layout allowed us to flexibly retrofit specialized services and plan modular lab furniture that supports future upgrades.

Makerspace & Community Kitchen

In addition to the lab, we equipped the makerspace with workbenches, tools, and flexible storage for rapid prototyping. We also mapped out offices and shared areas, designing a modern kitchen and community space that connects seamlessly to a terrace—creating a balanced environment for work, creativity, and collaboration.

Sprint

We did 2x Sprints with each 3 days togther with the Phlair team to quickly advandce the setup and build up of all the spaces.

Supported by our fully equipped workshop we concluded the Sprint with all connections, storage, furniture and tools in place.

We even added motion-activated lighting to highlight the showroom at night, ensuring both function and visibility.
